NORBERT MEIER: Vienna's last brush maker

A rare craft in Vienna

Norbert Meier runs a family business that has existed for over a century. Hans Meier, Norbert's father, began producing brushes as early as 1918. The current location in Vienna's 17th district, Hernals, was moved into in 1971 and has been the heart of the company ever since.

In the workshop of Norbert Meier and his son-in-law Gerhard Duchac, emphasis is still placed on genuine handcraft and the best materials. Its range is diverse.  Whether horsehair, goat hair or boar bristles - choosing the right material is crucial to making the perfect brush. Natural hair should not be too soft and not too hard for the brush to function optimally. For example, shoe brushes made of synthetic hair do not make the shoe shine, while natural hair ensures the best care.

Ludwig Reiter has been working with Norbert Meier for more than 40 years. As an experienced master in questions relating to the care of leather products, Norbert Meier puts together a selection of brushes to optimally care for handmade shoes and leather goods.
